We took this photo from the little cabin we stayed in at Broken River. The cloud is now all around us and it is 8am in the morning and I am wondering just how slippery the Steep drive back down this mountain will be in 10 minutes time when we leave here.

No worries, I just drove at 30k's all the way down.

There are many excellent walks up here on the mountains. This is not the area to bring an old car or tow a van, due to the extremely steep and tight corners road up there.
The coolness of the mountain air is well worth it on a hot summers day.

This is the view at the point called Sky View, up on the mountains just after the tiny town called Eungalla.

This is low tide at Long Beach in Mackay near the Airport. We stayed at the Resort right there on the beach. Low tide makes for a great walk out on the sand to see all the tiny crabs.

This is one of the beautiful tall trees that grows up on the mountains west of Mackay, Qld.
We stayed in Mackay for two lovely ocean front nights. Then up to Eungella and stayed at Broken River Resort for another two nights.

Two nights at Broken River

That dark spot in the river is a Platypus. It has come up for air and to eat it's catch from the river bed. It eats worms and prawns and other fresh water spineless creatures. we took this photo from the bridge with the large lens. It was quite a distance away from us, but no matter, we saw our first Platypus in the wild. 18th January 2011
